March 20, 2013, Day 4, Guadalupe

March 20, 2013, Day 4, Guadalupe

Guadalupe was a bust.  Kristin was not able to find excursions before the trip because everything was in French.  On the island, French is the national language and few natives speak English.  This inability to communicate with them made it seem that they were less friendly.  We were afraid to venture too far, especially by taxi because we were not confident the drivers could communicate with us and get us back to the ship.

We walked through some markets, but the language barrier really seemed like a disconnect for me.   After a few hours Karen bought a vanilla stalk and a cocoa plant.  We found a cafe close to the ship with free Wifi, so we all went back to the ship and got our cell phones and Ipads,then headed back to catch up on e-mail and the civilized world. {We went back to this shop that had a chocolate croissant earlier in the day, but it was gone by the time we got back. They tried to ease the blow by giving me a regular croissant with Nutella in the middle but it wasn't the same. It was nice to feel connected to the outside world again. When walking around it was cool to see the fish market. When they sold the fish they would then gut them and get them ready for their customers. Which was gross and interesting at the same time. The smell was less than pleasant but fun to see a fresh fish market like that.}

Guadalupe was the only stop along the way that I have no desire to see again.  I think we made the most of this day given where we were.

We boarded the ship around 4:00 and got ready for dinner.  The meal was good, but we laughed our way through a gluttonous dessert.  So many things looked good on the menu, so we each ordered a primary dessert, then several additional orders which we shared.  Our table companions thought it was pretty funny.  I am just glad no one from Fit for Life was there taking pictures! Since the food is included in the price of the cruise there is really no limit to what you can order!

I did exercise on the ship, but clearly not enough to burn all the calories from my meals :-(

{After our meal we went to the lounge to play a game where they would play a song and if you knew it you could run up to the mic and sing the rest of the song and get a small prize. It was a lot of fun. Mom and I both got up and sang a song we knew. I hate singing in crowds and this was a lot more fun because the expectations were really low so people we surprised and mildly impressed when I could carry a tune. lol. After that we went to a show in the theater that was suppose to be the comedian. However, something happened with his flight so he wasn't there so we watched a variety show. It wasn't bad but I was in the mood to laugh. After the show it was back to our room for bed. }
