We went on a cruise with my parents to the southern Caribbean this past March. I was to busy having fun with my mom in my free time that I didn't keep a journal of my day like I normally do on vacation. I'm so made at myself for that. Luckily my dad kept a journal of each of our days activities. He shared them with me and I thought it would be fun to have his thoughts on the day in my journal as well. I'll likely add some things and try to make it clear that its my memory and not my dads. I'm kind of excited to have my dads thoughts recorded though. I wish my parents would make blog books too.
The only dad my dad did not write about was our first day. I'm writing this at the beginning of Aug and a lot has happened since then. But I'll do my best to remember.
We woke up in the morning excited to be together and be boarding the ship. We didn't think we could board till at least noon so we had a lot of time to kill. We chatted for a good bit then the men and I went to work out at the hotel gym (which was inside of the San Juan Airport.) The gym was a bust and didn't have much so we ended up back in our room earlier than we had planned. Dad showed me a fun game on the iPad and Mike and I had fun playing songpop together. A little later on the Men went to grab breakfast while the women got ready for the day. Around 11 o'clock we had to check out and take a taxi to the dock. We got there at just the right time, we waited in line for only a few minutes before they opened the cruise terminal. We were so excited. I was excited to watch my parents faces as they experiences the cruise life for the first time. I knew they would love it. My mom was very nervous and skeptical about the whole thing, but I was determined to convert her. I knew my dad would be like a little kid in a candy store and I couldn't wait to watch him.
As soon as we checked in and got our room keys we went to board the ship. It was massive and we were all in awe of it. Especially the glass elevators that would eventually overlook the ocean. We were surprised that when we got on the ship at noon they had our rooms ready. We put our things away and got situated. Then we went up and had lunch in the cafeteria. Dad was so excited by all the food, it was pretty funny. After lunch we went and explored the ship. We found the room we would have dinner in, checked out the pools, the thermal suit, theater, casino and dads favorite the gym. The guys decided it was time for some male bonding on the basketball quart. While they did that mom and I played a round of putt-putt on the mini golf course. Then we went to one of the ship shopping talks and a raffle for the spa. I was kind of bummed we didn't win anything. Then it was time for dinner. We were the first ones to our table for 10. Not to long after another couple showed up. Fred and Cathy were from Maine. They were a lot of fun to chat with. They both were teachers. Fred was a high school history teacher and basketball coach, while Cathy was an elementary school teacher. Fred was now retired and worked as a lobster fisherman. Fred and Dad became good buddies. We had a great dinner, the food was fantastic. After dinner we went to the welcome show which was just ok, but at least gave us something to do. Then it was time for bed. We needed our rest for our big day in St. Thomas the next day.
