The English Countryside: Day 1

June 28th,

Today we woke up bright and early as we had a driver picking us up from the hotel at 6:45. We had planned a group tour of the Cotswolds area of England. It was really nice. We aren't the type of people who can stay in one village for hours strolling into every shop we see. So this was perfect for us. We stopped at 4 different places.

First we stopped at Burford. It was very cute, not a lot of tourists and only one main street with lots of cute stores on it so it was easy to navigate and we felt ready to leave after our hour was up. I was excited to see a post office and wanted to send a few post cards until I realized I don't know the zip code of the addresses I wanted to send them to. So I was only able to write two to my sisters since I know my home address :)

(I thought this sink was cool. It had everything you need all in one)

We then drove 20 minutes to Bibury, it is home to Arlington Row which is photographed often when talking about the Cotswalds. It was charming, very small and we were the only group there.

Mike was able to befriend a little duck while we we're there. It was rather funny. He help out his had and put a pebble in it. The duck thought the pebble was food so it would come up to his hand and try to eat it. He loves feeding animals for some reason.

We had lunch at a hotel there with our group. Mike and I got the best seat in the house that overlooked the greenery of the patio. The main dish was trout, we don't like fish so we ordered the vegitarian plate. When we say everyone else being served the trout it looked very fishy but came with delicious looking fresh veggies and potatoes. We got excited that we would be getting something like that. But no... we got a bowl of pasta... mushy pasta with gross red sauce. I was disgusted and disgruntled. Finally I went and asked them if we could have some veggies and potatoes. They brought me out a HUGE plate with a massive amount of veggies on it. It was like a mountain. Mike and I's mouth began to water as we haven't had many fresh veggies the past few days. We ate that whole plate in 8 min flat and we left very happy with our meal and the town.

From there we went to Burton on the Water. It was once again charming, but this time it was crowded with tourists. Mike found some ducks and we just sat by the water and fed them, looked at a few shops and then we were ready to leave.

Our final stop was Stratford Upon Avon the birthplace of William Shakespeare. We went on a tour of the house of his Eldest Daughter and they served us scones with strawberry Jam and clotted creme... delish.

After the tour we walked down to the main street area. It was very busy but lovely all at the same time. They had a few really awesome candy shops that made you feel like you were at the candy store at the beginning of Willy Wonka. I was in 7th heaven. We spent more time in there than we did any other shop.

We also got to see the birth house of William Shakespear (but only from the outside.... we are kind of over going inside every building and church that has significant historical meaning.) It was a great little town to visit and we were there for 1 1/2 hours so the timing was once again perfect as it was hot and our feet start hurting after we have walked for more than 30 min... they are all tired out from constant walking the past week +

When we arrived back in London we took the Tube to Wimbelton again. It was a beautiful day for tennis, which made it harder to get in this time. We had to wait in the queue fro 45 min. By the time we got in the only match being played we were interested in was the Nadal vs Rosol match. We got some food and sat on the hill and watched the match on the big screen.

It was an amazing match. Nadal won the first set and lost the  2nd and 3rd then won the 4th set. After the 4th set they stopped play for 30 min so they could close the roof. We decide that since it was cold, and we weren't in the actual court area that it would be a good time to leave as we had to check out of our hotel the next morning.

When we got back to the hotel we watched the very end of the match and saw Nadal lose!! We were shocked (as was everyone else!) Then we were kicking ourselves for leaving. But we enjoyed the time we did spend at our second night at Wimbelton.
